The four-gear percussion drill — the QUADRIVE drill with a hammer action added. Percussion works by two ridged discs riding over each other: a high stroke rate at modest energy per blow, which suits brick, block and soft masonry. For concrete a dedicated hammer drill does the same job with far less pressure from you, and for aerated block, perforated brick or plasterboard the hammer should be switched off entirely.
