Brad-point wood drills on the CENTROTEC shank, 3 to 7 mm and upward. The centre spur stops the bit skating as it starts, and the outer spurs sever the fibres before the flutes lift them — so the hole has a clean rim rather than a torn one. A twist drill in timber does neither.
